Five Men Rob Bulawayo Home, Injure 64-Year-Old

Police are looking for five men who broke into a home in Killarney and robbed a couple on April 23.

The attack happened around 11:50 PM. A 64-year-old man woke up after hearing noise in his kitchen. He found five unknown men inside.

The gang had used an axe and iron bars to break the security gate, police said. They hit the man on the head, then went to the bedroom.

The men threatened his wife and demanded money. She gave them US$830 and R5 000. The group then ran away.

The homeowner was treated for head injuries. Police confirmed the robbery and said no arrests have been made yet.

ZRP Bulawayo Deputy Spokesperson Assistant Inspector Thandekile Ndlovu said police are investigating. She urged people to make their homes safer.

“Residents should strengthen doors, windows and burglar bars to stop criminals,” she said. “Anyone with information should report to the nearest police station.”

Police say violent home break-ins are rising in Zimbabwe, especially in low-density suburbs. Criminals often use heavy tools like axes and crowbars to enter homes. They attack people and demand cash.

Authorities want stronger neighbourhood watch groups and more help from communities to fight crime.

The case is still under investigation.
